Antiparos, Cyclades
Our main goal was to create a design that would be consistent with the character of the existing landscape. Evergreen trees (Olea europaea, Ficus carica, Tamarix parviflora and Juniperus oxycedrus), ornamental grasses (Andropogon gerardii, Oryzopsis miliacea), and local aromatic plants were arranged in clusters, as one would encounter them in nature. The pool area was planted with native evergreen shrubs (Limoniastrum monopetalum, Nerium oleander, and Atriplex halimus) that harmonize beautifully with the Mediterranean landscape and complement the panoramic sea-view of the house. The stone pathways were lined with flowering perennials (Leucophyllum frutescens, Gaura lindheimeri ‘Alba’, Teucrium fruticans, Teucrium brevifolium, Perovskia abrotanoides, Phlomis fruticosa, Salvia ‘Allen Chickering’, a.o.) and herbs (Origanum vulgare, Thymus capitatus, Thymus vulgaris, Rosmarinus officialis ‘Postratus’, a.o.), and the green roofs were covered with grasses (Juncus maritimus, Arundo donax) and perennials (Salvia chamaedroides, Carissa grandiflora, Helichrysum italicum, Helichrysum petiolare, a.o.) that enhance the microclimate of the building and the biodiversity of the site, contributing to a sustainable, eco-friendly environment.
