The aim of our design was to create a tranquil and sustainable Cycladic garden. Tufts of creeping rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Prostratus’) were planted around the house and the outdoor steps, giving off a soothing scent and a relaxing ambience. Tall cypresses (Cupressus sempervirens ‘Pyramidalis’) and a pomegranate tree were conspicuously placed in wind-sheltered spots, and clumps of grasses (Pennisetum setaceum, Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’, and Stipa tenuissima) with a variety of colors and textures were planted all over the garden, adding a unique character to the grounds. The different sections of the garden are connected by pathways of asymmetrical local stones that were lined with Mediterranean plants (Helichrysum italicum, Lavandula dentata) and herbs (Origanum vulgare, Thymus vulgaris, Satureja thymbra, Origanum majorana, and Melissa officinalis) to complement the garden’s natural flow.
