Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’
Landscape architecture proposal for the planted areas outside the Μain Τerminal building of the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. The aim of our design was to showcase the diversity of the Greek natural landscape. Different landscape typologies -including rocks and maquis, both typical of the Mediterranean countryside, as well as elevated planted areas reminiscent of the Greek hillsides- are used in an aesthetically minimal way. Cypress and olive trees are harmoniously combined, with the geometric precision of the olive trees seamlessly integrating with the free-flowing lines of the natural environment. A long, partially hidden strip of red light runs throughout the planted areas, evoking the spontaneity and vividness of the Greek spirit.
